Slowly but Surely

Many of my peers and myself are going through the toughest period of our tertiary education, and probably the most important one of all. Hang in there my dears, because slow but surely, we'll complete the race. :)

This is the art mode of Olympus Pen, Ramen Lu's amazingly fun camera! The dear subject is the sweetest kitten/cat we lovingly named Nua Sai.

Oriental Pied-hornbill

Oriental Pied-hornbill, Anthracoceros albirostris.

Native to Singapore, one family of this charming bird can be found on Pulau Ubin. This individual was spotted on St. John's island. According to Wilson, from the Tropical Marine Institute situated on the island, there are 2 resident hornbills there and this is one of them. Distinctive calls. :)

Tioman Series Part 3: The Other Perspective

Take a closer look. Don't ignore the blatant things staring in your face.

Probably my favourite picture of the bunch. Listen to the story it is telling. (Don't worry, the cat is alive, but the message is clear.)

Tioman is sparsely inhabited and supported by the tourist trade. Look at what's behind the rustic beauty of pretty little hut-like houses.

We often take potable tap water in Singapore for granted. How precious it is to the land-scarce Singapore. It's ironic how Malaysia sells us water, and their tap water isn't potable.

Abandoned boats left wasted aside. It's a beautiful sight, especially because it wasn't meant to be.

Love Birds

These birds may look like part of the wall painting, but I assure you, they are really live parrots. Very loving ones, in fact. Taken at Sentosa.

Instant high

When you plan a picture and everything comes together so perfectly, it's a indescribable high. :)

I was waiting for a big bird to land there on this pretty tree but those that came were too small. Then finally I saw a white bird flying towards the tree and I knew it was God-sent because it landed straight where I wanted it to. Thought it was going to be a heron when I saw it flying, but it turned out to be a wild parrot! Spotted the family of this parrot flying around Kent Ridge a few times, and even munching on the jackfruits just outside my door.

This is addictive. :)

NOT Banded Leaf Monkey!

Exciting news!

There are 2 native species of monkeys in Singapore, one being the common long-tailed macaque that has made the news so often due to its aggresive presence due to the frequent feeding by the public. Another, an endemic subspecies found only in Singapore, is the highly endangered banded leaf monkey. It is said to be so rare that few have been spotted in the wild. The famous photograph of it is the stuffed one at the Raffles Biodiversity Museum, where the poor little creature was the last individual from Bukit Timah Nature Reserve that got killed from attacks by dogs when it climbed down its tree.

So is this the elusive Banded Leaf Monkey?

Found just outside my door chewing on the leaves of the trifoliate rubber tree. :) The awesome thing about staying along Kent Ridge Park!

Update:

Nope, this is not the banded leaf monkey but the dusky leaf monkey. Ahh all the false excitement. But it was still very cute. :)

"Both species (Sumatran and Bornean) live in the Southeast Asia rainforests. Unfortunately, their habitat is increasingly being threatened and destroyed by logging and forest fires. Other threats facing these creatures include poaching for illegal pet trade, and the “only way to get a baby is to kill the mother”. To date, the population of Bornean orang utans is estimated at 55,000. It is listed as an endangered species on the IUCN's Red List of Threatened Animals and on Appendix I of CITES. Their Sumatran counterpart, on the other hand, is said to have population numbers of only 7,500 left in the wild, making this species critically endangered."

found this blue bee in the laundrette!

This bee was dead when i found it. Placed it on a piece of white paper to take some pictures of its pretty blue. No animals were harmed in the process. :)
